A famous quote from Hamilton "The Babe" Porter, its time to see what the boys are made of. Well, with a majority of the Card's lineup, we know exactly what we're getting. Pujols will be Pujols. Holliday will be the man I know and love. But there are quite a few things to watch this spring, making these games maybe somewhat entertaining to watch:
Today's Starting Lineup:
2B Skip Schumaker
SS Ryan Theriot - Let's see if the The Riot looks to form for some sort of miraculous come-back season. I'm skeptical, but stranger names have had success (see 06 ronnie belliard).
1B Albert Pujols - Just don't get hurt.
LF Matt Holliday - See above.
RF Lance Berkman - The Big Puma has been dealing with elbow soreness and is a huge defensive question mark out there in right. But if he hits, I'm pretty happy.
3B Allen Craig - I love Craig and think he's got some great potential, but he needs to be huge this year with the question mark of Freese's health.
CF Jon Jay - No Colby. Let's see if Jay can keep up with the ridiculous bar he set last year for himself. Colby's going to breakout this year imho.
C Gerald Laird - Kind of a boring pickup, but necessary. The moustache back there will be missed.
DH Matt Carpenter - We'll see....
LHP Raul Valdes - Signed to a minor league deal, the 33 year old lefty will hope to bust into the newly vacant 5th spot in the rotation. Odds that happen: 1 in one billion. Valdes has been a lifetime minor leaguer and Fangraphs projects him at a possible WAR of 0 and an era in the high 4's. I'd much rather take a chance on a younger guy, but good luck Raul.
Go Cards.
